Possibly Nurse, but I very much doubt I'll end up in the UK personally There are so many better places in my opinion, and once the kids are gone (and mine have dual citizenship and many relatives in the US for example), then there's not much keeping me here.
On the one hand something warmer, relaxed and sybaritic, on the other something remote, colder and more dramatic. I genuinely don't know. We seem here to live in a middling rainy grey with none of the advantages of either, and I don't just mean the weather.

Port Stanley sounds like it ticks boxes judging by the criteria of some posters.

If you want remoteness, natural beauty and cold then the north of Iceland is your place. With the added advantage that your (far away) Icelandic neighbours are more than likely to be tremendous people. In fact all of that applies to most of Iceland and it's only 2 to 3 hours away. Trouble is, it's unbelievably expensive to live there.

I lived there for 16 years, it's not all it's cracked up to be, great in the summer but very very wet and boring in the winter.

Depends how much money I have amongst other things. Either Australia or Thailand. Thailand has more messing about for visas etc, but is a cheaper place to live.

Yes, Tuscany delivers on the hype, absolutely beautiful place and easy to find somewhere which is relatively remote but still a reasonable drive from places like Siena and Florence. Just a bit hot for me, so I'm seriously thinking about somewhere on one of the Italian lakes once the kids fuck off.

I have semi retired to Madrid , the suburbs , surrounded by forests and nature with mountains for skiing etc about 20 minutes in one direction , yet 15 minutes in the other direction for the hustle, bustle, entertainment and financial opportunities of a capital city.
However full on retirement I could not recommend and plan next year to head to Galicia , amazing countryside , villages where there could be as few as 4/5 houses , big converted done up 4-6 bedroom Farmhouses with acres of land for about 100k , and with La coruna 20 minutes away with 120 odd blue flag beaches , with a historic city Santiago Compostella a great town to chill. With he climate not as intense in Summer as Madrid or the Costas. Only problem unpredictable weather ,but no way in my opinion as bad as UK . With airfares from Santiago to UK for about €20 to keep close to family for emergencies etc. Galicia , beautiful and peaceful part of Spain , As is Asturias and if money allowed which it would not for me, San Sebastion.
